12 Peaks Trophy tested by ourselves: this is what our ski day across 12 peaks was really like
We tested the 12 Peaks Trophy from Zauchensee to Grießenkar ourselves and share what guests should really know
The 12 Peaks Trophy is one of the most exciting ski routes in Salzburger Land. Christoph and I tested it ourselves to find out how manageable it really is for our guests and what you can actually expect on this tour. Our conclusion: if you enjoy sporty skiing, start early and want a varied day on the mountain, this route is a real highlight. The tour is long, the ski area is impressively large, and that is exactly what makes it so special. In just one day, you ski through several interconnected areas, discover constantly changing viewpoints and hardly ever need to ski the same run twice. For a ski holiday in Flachau, the 12 Peaks Trophy is a very strong recommendation for anyone who wants to experience the full variety of the ski area.
An early start in Zauchensee: how we began the 12 Peaks Trophy
We started in Zauchensee at 08:45 and went straight for the first three peaks. Snow conditions were excellent right from the morning and the slopes were in really great shape. From the very first turn, skiing was pure fun. After that, we continued towards Flachauwinkl and Kleinarl, where the next two peaks were already waiting for us.
Right at the beginning, you quickly notice what makes the 12 Peaks Trophy so special: this is not just a few ski runs put together, but a full route through a huge interconnected ski area with constantly changing impressions. For guests who want to make the most of their ski holiday in Flachau, that is exactly the big appeal. Instead of staying in the same area all day, you keep discovering new runs, new perspectives and some of the most beautiful viewpoints in the entire region.
At the same time, this is not a tour you should underestimate. If you want to ski the 12 Peaks Trophy, it is worth starting early and taking a quick look at the route in advance. Especially if you do not know the ski area that well yet, good orientation will save you time and make the day more relaxed.
More informations to these topics:
The 12 Peaks Trophy is not just a normal ski day, it is a true ski safari through one of the largest and most diverse ski areas in Salzburger Land.

Across the whole ski area with Panoramalink and G-Link
After the first five peaks, we continued via the Panoramalink towards Wagrain. And honestly, the name really fits. This connection is not only practical, it is also a real scenic highlight. From there, we kept going and used the G-Link to connect the next section towards Wagrain St. Johann and Alpendorf. That is where the next five peaks were waiting for us.
At this point at the latest, you really understand how large and varied the 12 Peaks Trophy is. The route takes you through a huge part of the ski area and that is exactly what makes it so special. You are constantly on the move, always discovering new slopes and you almost feel like you are experiencing several different ski days in one.
After ten peaks, we stopped for lunch at Starchenstadl and took a short break. The food was really good and the timing of the stop was just right. Our pure lift and ski time for all twelve peaks was 3 hours and 32 minutes. That sounds quick, but this point is important: we know the area very well. Anyone skiing the route for the first time, checking directions, stopping for photos or simply wanting to enjoy the day at a more relaxed pace should definitely allow more time.
That is exactly what we would recommend to our guests as well. Do not rush through it just to finish. The 12 Peaks Trophy is not about being done as fast as possible, it is about fully enjoying this huge ski area and everything that makes it special.
Our conclusion on the 12 Peaks Trophy: is it worth it for almlust guests?
After lunch, we headed back towards Flachau and Wagrain and then continued to the final two peaks at Grießenkar. Especially towards the end of the day, it was impressive once again to see just how large the whole ski area really is and how smoothly lifts and slopes work together. Even though we know the region well, it was still a strong experience for us to realise once again how much variety this ski day offers.
For us, the biggest highlight of the 12 Peaks Trophy is that you keep skiing new terrain almost all day long instead of repeating the same slopes again and again. That is exactly what makes this route so special. You get a completely different feeling for the size of the ski area, experience countless beautiful viewpoints and come down from the mountain in the afternoon with a huge smile on your face.
Our honest conclusion: the 12 Peaks Trophy is a clear recommendation for sporty skiers who want more from their ski holiday in Flachau than just a few runs around one mountain. If you start early, allow enough time and enjoy long ski days, you will be rewarded with an exceptional full-day ski experience.
For almlust guests, this tour is especially interesting if you want to explore the ski area in depth and are looking for a real ski day adventure. Guests who prefer a more relaxed pace can of course focus on individual parts of the area. But if you want to experience the bigger picture, the 12 Peaks Trophy is a fantastic winter holiday experience in Flachau.
